Our unnamed narrator chose to go to a different land. A land that would accept them better than the land they came from, but they still dealt with a different sort of rejection.

Suppressing emotions are a quick fix, a temporary fix. Self preservation, however, is forever.

A very strong story. Turned out way more powerful than I anticipated.

I love that shes a scientist turned witch, and that she's so in control. I enjoyed the feminist angle to the story, too. On Hecate III, thoughts become things. Your beliefs literally shape reality there. How could a scientist pass up on the opportunity to implant herself in this world and observe? But of course, she ends up changing their fabric of reality as well. They think of her as a magician, a witch; and that is what she becomes. As a magician and witch, she becomes part of the royal court, and a girl-prince is born after many many years. Why? Because Taterra said it, and all the women believed it...

 Review of Real Sugar is Hard to Find by Sim Kern (5998 words) Planet Scumm, Issue #11, Summer 2021 : Purchase A story about dystopia, attempted suicide, intense pollution and untrustworthy elements sounds like it would be quite dense and heavy. However, like the title hints at, this story turns out quite sweet. People are always people, with softness and feeling. Everyone is just trying to look out for their own. And sympathies can arise from that. Retaining that faith - that some might call naiveté - is not necessarily a bad thing.  Review of Fried Rice by Shih-Li Kow (996 words) Flash Fiction Online, February 2022 : Purchase or Read Online A beautiful concept, beautifully executed. I love how the dad's frustration was portrayed. The narrator, Marta, was equally in grief, but wanted dad to take the first step towards moving on. Cook's personality was also very well developed and I loved the conversation between Marta and Cook. The ending was poignant and touching. Lovely story.
